Day 58
Miles today: 12 miles
Miles so far: 1089.8 miles
Campsite: Paradise Inn
Sooo you know how I mentioned “death to the road walk” yesterday? Well that was a lie. The entire day was another road walk. Although very pleasant. It started from the hotel over the Navarre bridge and into Navarre Beach area. Past many vacation homes and obviously all beaches. I followed the trail onto the beach for half of a mile to only decide to walk back onto the road. Beach walking is hard!!!! I got to see Snoopi and Monkey once again today as they dropped a water cache for us near the campsite. Yay!!!
I was able to get out of the wind for a little bit while I took a break. Being ona beach made for a really breezy hike. It was overcast all morning so it was a tad chilly.
I was nearly at the turn off for the campsite when a truck pulled over and honked at me. Handlebar and FrontPage sitting in the bed of the truck, Alex and Grits in the main cab area, Grits driving. It was sweet to see Grits again. He had borrowed a friend’s truck to get us some trail magic and go to Fort Pickens. I hopped in the truck, and we headed 5 miles down the road to Pensacola Beach.
We had lunch there. While the boys went and got a room at the Hilton, I opted for the local joint, the Paradise Inn. Rooms were pricey, and there was only a single bed. No problem, I am alone. A whole room to myself!
Grits asked me to drive him to the entrance of the 10 mile walk into Fort Pickens so he could finish his hike. I sadly had to inform him I couldn’t drive stick. He was saddened and called me a fool for not learning hahaha! He told me that he’d pay for me to get my training once I got back home. Ha, what a sweet man. Handlebar suggested he could drive him so he did. Alex and FrontPage gone to the Hilton, we headed toward Fort Pickens to drop Grits off.
I texted Joey as I knew he had finished his hiked and told him we could pick him up if he was still there once Grits finished hiking. And he was! Funny how we thought, we’d never see each other again and here we were seeing each other again!! I told him I had a room but he had to sleep on the floor. Since he slept on the bed at the pioneer settlement, it was my turn to get the whole bed.
We went for food, and it was pricier but I should of expected that since it is the coast and spring break. I got this MASSIVE piece of key lime pie. It was delicious but I was unable to finish it. It was massive. Go to Flounders and get one!
Alright tomorrow is my last day on this trail. Many mix emotions but I’ll tell you all about it tomorrow. Afterall, I have a 40hrs bus ride back home so there will be plenty of time for me to write a final entry.
Happy trails beach goers!
