New Gear

Only a few weeks until I fly out to Miami to begin my first thru-hike. I have been preparing and hoping I have everything ready.

I am pretty confident with my gear as I’ve used them so many times before, I know what worked for me and what didn’t. A few new items has made it into my pack on this trip.

Chrome Dome

Chrome Dome Umbrella: When I first thought of thru-hiking the CDT, I knew the umbrella would of been an excellent piece of gear for the desert section. From what I am hearing, Florida is pretty sunny and many sections will be in full sun and to maximize my sun protection, I’ve decided to buy the umbrella and will be giving it a shot.

20 Degree Quilt

EnLIGHTement equipment quilt: I’ve never used a quilt before, but needed to find a lighter option than my current sleeping bag. At about 19oz, I hope this piece of gear will keep me warm and toasty on chilly nights.

Superior 2.0

Altra Running shoes: I’ve been wearing my Merrell Moab ventilator for many years now. I used to love them. The last long hike I’ve had with them created so many feet/toes issues that I’ve started having trust issues ha! Beside, it was time to update my footwear. Knowing ahead of time that I will be going through swamp, muddy sections and plenty of road walking, I knew I needed something else. I went on a quest to find some lightweight trail runners and found the Altras. I have yet put them to the test of hiking 20+ miles in one day but they have been wonderful on shorter hikes.
